HISTORY

The IMBEWU story begins in 2001 in an encounter between Mike Pantsi, Sparks Bulala and Shaun Galo from the New Brighton township and a young Swiss man, Pascal Holliger leading to the creation of IMBEWU South Africa. A combination of an extraordinary friendship, a special connection with the local community and a shared vision enabled the organisation to grow. Local fundraising efforts began with the organisation of “township tours” for tourists using an old VW bus. On his return to Switzerland, Pascal Hollliger founded IMBEWU-Suisse to ensure the continuity of the South African organisation.
